A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF…
Who are those cuties with the flowers? That would be Ren and their partner/best friend in this life or the next, Veronica Vale, after their opening night of RENT at Scranton Shakes summer 2023 (playing Benny and Maureen respectively).
“My parents are immigrants (mom from the Philippines and dad from Dominican Republic). I have been singing since I was 5 years old (Filipinos love their karaoke), but got into acting at 15 because I was really into movies at the time. After seeing the Broadway production of Memphis, I thought to myself, “wow, there are people my color on that stage; I wanna do that!” My first play in high school was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and my first musical was Guys & Dolls. I even got to play one of the leads senior year as Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz! I joined my school’s show choir, the Scranton Knight Rhythms for my junior and senior year. After doing my freshman year of the MT program at Marywood University, I found myself not loving school anymore. With the encouragement of several educators from high school and college, I moved to NYC to pursue acting professionally in 2017. It was scary having little to no formal training other than hands-on experience from community theatre productions and the few productions I had during my education. But I had determination to figure it out as I went. Since then, I’ve had several beautiful opportunities which included a handful of short Off-Off-Broadway and Off-Broadway runs, regional productions, cabarets, new works and the like. Since coming out as fully non-binary mid-2023, life has been nothing but constant growth. My goal as an artist in this world is to continue to change people’s perceptions of not just how a role can be seen outside of a person’s gender or skin color, but who can play them. I fully believe that we are all each other’s future cast mates, choreographers, directors, music directors, producers, etc. I don’t believe in competition. I genuinely want everyone to succeed with kindness. I am so happy to be surrounded by so many people in my community to share in this light and continue to guide me along the way.”

ISLAND SONG
“The standout, however, was Cooper (Ren Cementina) who, through his story as a struggling artist, managed to give me goosebumps with his superb vocals.”
- Annie Zeleznikow, The Thespians Blog, 2019

Don't Dress For Dinner
"Ren Cementina, as Robert, exhibits remarkable physical and emotive flexibility as he slithers, stomps, rolls, collapses, and tangoes his ay through the evenings intricacies. It's a delight to watch him slide successfully out of one trap after another, and his summation, toward the end of the play, of the night's forays (complete with little apron) is an amazing recitation."
